💌Happy Monday. Secret Edinburgh

Hey Reader

One of my favourite things in this city I call home is experiencing it with the same curiosity and appreciation that I would while travelling elsewhere. Exploring Edinburgh beyond the typical tourist attractions can be a delightful experience, allowing you to uncover the city's hidden gems and unique character.

Over time I learned that the city is full of hidden treasures. Non-touristy parts of this beautiful city, the villages locals only know about, the parks unseen by most tourists and other hidden places.

Take, for example, six sculptures-not everyone knows about them.

Most tourists focus on the Old Town and hot spots in the city. Here, to see the sculpture, you need to pay attention. If you look down the river, from the Stockbridge bridge, you will experience the Water of Leith differently. This is because of the sculptural project made by Turner Prize-winning artist Antony Gormley, commissioned by the National Galleries of Scotland.

Six life-sized sculptures are a cast of the artist's own naked body. They are permanently installed along a trail leading from the National Gallery of Modern Art down the Water of Leith and the sea.

Or did you hear about Scotland’s largest heritage mural? The entire 140-meter tunnel is painted with murals and you can find this unique art in just 20 min by bus from the city centre. Read more about the Colinton Tunnel Mural here

Dr Neil's Garden is a secret garden full of peace and serenity, often missed by tourists. Located next to the 12th-century Duddingston Kirk, it is a great way to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. It is close location to Craigmillar Castle a less visited but equally fascinating alternative to Edinburgh Castle. It’s said that Mary Queen of Scots enjoyed stopping at Duddingston on her regular trips between the Royal Palaces of Craigmillar and Holyrood. Duddingston has long been a favourite of Edinburgh artists and writers, such as authors Sir Walter Scott and Robert Louis Stevenson.

See you on Monday!

Road trip or hiking in the mountains? Is there a special occasion to celebrate? Whatever type of trip you are planning, there is something for everyone’s style and budget. But I agree that...
